June 2004 Tracks

  1. A Grand Don't Come for FreeThe Streets - Fit But You Know It
Okay, this is the second white British rapper in two months…what’s going on here? Unlike Just Jack, I think Mike Skinner (a.k.a. The Streets) will be around for a while.
  2. The Get Up Kids - The One You Want
I really do like The Get Up Kids, despite my better judgment, and this is another great emo pop song from five guys who do it well.
  3. Bright Eyes - Waste of Paint
This song is a perfect example of why I love Bright Eyes. Conor Oberst just has a way of telling a story through a song that blows me away every single time I listen to it.
  4. H.I.M. - Join Me in Death
H.I.M. (His Infernal Majesty) started out as a cover band, doing songs by Type O Negative, KISS, Danzig, Black Sabbath and Depeche Mode. They’re a goth rock outfit from Finland. I can’t make this stuff up.
  5. The Jellybricks - Can’t Be Wrong
My favorite Central Pennsylvania power pop quartet returns with the first single from their third album, Power This. If you happen to live in that area, check out one of their excellent live shows!
  6. The Cure - The End of the World
If you haven’t already had the chorus to this song in your head, you will as soon as you listen to it. Not exactly ths kind of thing you normally say about The Cure.
  7. Snow Patrol - Spitting Games
These guys are going to be huge…this track has serious crossover potential. Little known fact: Snow Patrol used to be called Polarbear until a legal threat from the band in last month’s list.
  8. Jem - They
The second single from Jem’s debut album is much like the first. Bouncy electronic beats and a Bach sample make this a fun pop song.
  9. Nada Surf - Happy Kid
Another song from Nada Surf’s excellent album Let Go. Just the kind of excellent, mellow pop rock that I love to play in the background no matter what I’m doing.
  10. The Thrills - Big Sur
Synthesizers, banjos and an unbelievable hook…you’ll be singing along in no time. A great song from a killer album. One of Seth Cohen’s favorites.
