Arcade Fire - Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)
My sister recommended these guys to me. They’re from Montreal, and their debut album is amazing.
- The Faint - I Disappear
Another great track from Omaha, Nebraska’s The Faint. These guys will be backing Conor Oberst on the “electronic” leg of Bright Eyes’ new tour.
- The Black Keys - 10 A.M. Automatic
A great single from a surprisingly good album, Rubber Factory. If “garage blues” is a genre, this is what it sounds like.
- The Killers - Jenny Was a Friend of Mine
The third single from Hot Fuss is another solid effort from the retro-rockers. This band is from Las Vegas…I didn’t realize anyone was acutally from Las Vegas.
- Party Ben - Boulevard of Broken Songs
I was going to put “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” on a previous compilation, but was honestly just embarassed that it was Green Day. Party Ben saved me with a killer mashup, one of the best I’ve heard.
- Unwritten Law - Save Me
Are they a TRL-friendly pop-punk band that sounds like they were created in a major label’s boardroom? Yes…but that doesn’t mean I don’t like this song.
- Rilo Kiley - Portions for Foxes
All I really know about this band is that their last album was on Saddle Creek records. Well, that and that I dig this song a lot.
- The Futureheads - Hounds of Love
This band took their name from The Flaming Lips’ album Hit to Death in the Future Head. Isn’t that enough?
- Handsome Boy Modeling School - If It Wasn’t For You
Prince Paul and Dan the Automator can basically do no wrong in my book. Especially when they enlist the help of people like De La Soul.
- Le Tigre - TKO
This is one of those songs that was probably recorded in about twenty minutes. It’s straightforward, gets in your head, and won’t get out.
