The Flaming Lips - Do You Realize?
These guys should be one of the biggest bands in the world. They make really beautiful music that just gets in your head and refuses to leave.
- Modest Mouse - Gravity Rides Everything
We have officially hit the “beautiful music” portion of our compilation. Another band my sister has been trying to get me into and has finally succeeded. Incredible song.
- Kenna - Hell Bent
If you had told me that Chad Hugo (one half of The Neptunes and N.E.R.D.) had produced an album by an electronic-singer/songwriter type, I’d be curious enough to pick it up. The only thing better than this track might be the video.
- The Devlins - Waiting
A great song from the Six Feet Under soundtrack. These guys seem to come up with one amazing song about once a decade, so we may be waiting a while for the next one.
- Nada Surf - Blizzard of ‘77
If the last thing you heard from Nada Surf was Popular, check this out. Their last two albums have been absolutely stunning.
- Queens of the Stone Age - Mosquito Song
I can definitely appreciate that Josh Homme makes some solid music (with a rotating lineup of helpers), but most of it only holds my attention for a few listens. This track is a little against the grain from his usual stuff and I dig it.
- Tricky - Dear God
Trip-Hop legend (inventor?) Tricky’s new album has a couple of interesting covers, this one a classic XTC song featuring vocals from his apparent new favorite vocalist, “Don’t Call Me George” Costanza.
- John Mayer - Bigger Than My Body
My buddy Bill got me into John Mayer after I’d sort of written him off as a little too “pop” for my taste. I’m glad he did, since this is a great, mellow track.
- Dave Matthews - Gravedigger
I used to be a Dave Matthews Band fan, but it seems like they keep putting out basically the same album and never do anything new. Dave’s first “solo” album is finally something different and I really like this track.
- The White Stripes - Seven Nation Army
Very few songs have caught me off-guard as much as this one did. Jack White is my new hero.
